In memory of Greg Herrington, this award honors his many contributions toward advancing the application of visualization to problems in transportation.

A visionary in the application of technology to transportation design and engineering, Greg was an early adopter of the utilization of 3D visualization in design and planning.   Through his leadership, Utah DOT utilized some of the latest 3D visualization technology for many projects such as the Virgin River Arch Bridge, greatly reducing cost overruns and time to completion, and the Logan Canyon Curve project long delayed by environmental impact concerns.  In 2004, Greg was recognized internationally for his work on the Virgin River project.

The Greg Herrington Award for Excellence in Visualization Research, which is presented annually, seeks to build on Greg’s pioneering work in transportation visualization by formally recognizing leading edge research in the application of visualization to problems in transportation.
