The subcommittees were inaugurated at the 2008 TRB Annual Meeting, and reflect the areas of focus identified by the Committee as part of its Triennial Strategic Plan it prepared in 2007.  Other subcommittee areas have been identified for the future, however it was felt the following merited immediate attention.

RESEARCH

Proposed Scope: Gather, review, organize, and report on the various research needs as they come out of each of the subcommittees and the Committee. This subcommittee will then be responsible for effectively “packaging” research needs per TRB guidelines, and maintain their posting on the TRB Research Needs web site.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Proposed Scope: Explore the issues and opportunities surrounding needs for education and training at the following levels: Organizational, Professional, Executive, Policy-making, and Students. Then identify and scope necessary research that stands to address and/or support those needs & opportunities.

TRANSPORTATION DATA

Proposed Scope: Explore and organize leading issues relating to the visualization of transportation data in all its environments. Establish strategic relationships (and joint working groups if necessary) with other TRB committees.

VISUAL COMMUNICATION

Proposed Scope: Explore the spectrum of professional, legal, and ethical issues associated with visual communication relative to planning, design, construction, and operations. Identify needed research regarding best practices, guidelines, and standards of conduct.

RETURN ON INVESTMENT

Proposed Scope: Explore key areas of the transportation community where more quantifiable benefits and “usable” measures would help decision-makers understand the value of visualization to their organizations, their profession, and ultimately their clients. Formulate research needs accordingly.

AWARDS

Scope: Beginning at the 2008 TRB Annual Meeting, the Visualization Committee presented its first yearly award to recognize the best paper for “Excellence in Visualization Research” in honor of Mr. Greg Herrington (1965-2005), who was a member of TRB’s previous Visualization Task Force (ABJ95T). All formal processes including reviews and final selection are the responsibility of this subcommittee.RESEARCH_SUB.htmlhttp://rns.trb.org/EDUCATION_and_TRAINING_SUB.htmlTRANSPORTATION_DATA_SUB.htmlVISUAL_COMMUNICATION_SUB.htmlRETURN_ON_INVESTMENT_SUB.htmlAWARDS_SUB.htmlABOUT_AWARD.htmlshapeimage_10_link_0shapeimage_10_link_1shapeimage_10_link_2shapeimage_10_link_3shapeimage_10_link_4shapeimage_10_link_5shapeimage_10_link_6shapeimage_10_link_7
